"Don't Get On The Scale, Look In The Mirror" - How T.J. Lost 70lbs with PureBody

"Don't Get On The Scale, Look In The Mirror" - How T.J. Lost 70lbs with PureBody

Name: T.J.
Start Weight: 290 @ 6'1"
Lowest Weight: 220

Current Weight: 230 (10lbs of added muscle)

I met T.J. in my store at the beginning of his journey. T.J. says he's 6'1", but it sure seems that he is taller. TJ weighed in at 290 pounds at the start. His goal was to loose 70lbs. He accomplished that goal and dropped down to 220. He then realized he wanted to add a little more muscle and now sits at a muscular and fit 230.

His original goal was an extremely honorable one. He told me he wanted to be in better overall health and be able to chase his daughter around. The funny thing is that even though TJ is in better health and gotten faster, his daughter is still a lot to keep up with, but that seems to be the case with little girls. It is funny to see a 6'1" musclehead trying to keep up with a cute little girl that is about 2' tall and weighs 25 pounds. Overall he added about and inch and a half total to his arms, chest, and legs after loosing the body fat.

In His Own Words: TJ's ADVICE

"Getting started is tough, but worth it. You don’t see the results fast, but it will come. Working out and eating right is like anything else. It’s how bad do YOU want it. The only thing that stands between trying to look good and succeeding is YOU. You have to work for it like you work for everything else, and the payoff is amazing. The only thing that helped me is start with small goals to achieve, then work toward the end. Don’t start off with something impossible, like trying, to lose 70 pounds in two months. Focus on losing 10 or 15 pounds then reset and set another goal. Also, don’t get on the scale and weigh yourself, look in the mirror for results."

You Mean Protein Can Actually Taste Good?

If you have tried more than 3 protein shakes, you have probably tried one that would rank as the worst tasting thing in the history of your life.  As a nutrition store owner, we get the "pleasure" of trying almost every protein mix on the market.  Sometimes I think it is a cruel joke the companies are pulling or I often expect a hidden camera crew to pop out saying I just drank a mud pie (in some cases a mud pie might taste better - i.e. Body Fortress vs. Mud Pie....Mud Pie wins!).

I will be the first to tell you that most protein tastes like chalk or worse and often has a terrible after taste.  Companies will spend millions in advertising to tell you how great their product is and how great it tastes (Muscletech).  The truth is very few companies put forward what is needed to actually make a product taste great.

There are a few things you can look at on a label that will tell you if a product MIGHT taste great and I will make a few product recommendations that are available at PureBody Nutrition.
Look at these ingredients:
Cholesterol:  A high amount of cholesterol typically means a lower quality protein and thus a bad tasting product.
Whey Protein Isolate:  This may not change the flavor much, but it makes a huge difference in quality. (you will absorb 99% of the amino acids in an isolate as opposed to a "concentrate" protein).  I typically like to have 50-80% Isolate and 20-50% concentrate in my proteins.  It is a good balance between the two proteins.  An absolute isolate actually tastes bad, but combining the two seems put a good balance on flavor.
Flavor: If it is a fruit flavor (especially tropical) it will more than likely taste bad or the protein quality is so low that you will not absorb any of the protein.  Another problem is that the sugar content maybe extremely high!  Fruit flavors that are occasionally really good Strawberry, Watermelon (I've found many to taste good, but they are high in sugar), peach, banana.

There are really only three products I recommend that are in our store that I am confident you will more than likely LOVE the taste.  Be sure and ask for a sample when in our store to make sure you like the flavor before you leave.  Also feel free to ask for samples of other proteins in the store.

#1.  Core Whey Active (Chocolate or Vanilla)
#2 AfterGlow (Bazooka Fruit, Watermelon, CherryBomb)

#3 Protein Ultimate (Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Cookies and Creme)

Women, Weights, and Protein: NO you WILL NOT look like a man!

One of the biggest fears with women, weights and protein is the fear of getting "bulky" or getting "manly".  THIS is a myth that needs to be dispelled.

The primary hormones for women are progesterone and estrogen.  Women do produce some testosterone, but typically not enough to make women bulky.  Women in magazines that look bulky are typically taking supplements or even drugs to increase testosterone, which leads to the "bulky" or "manly" look.

I'm posting up pictures of Alicia, who is 34, a mother of two.  Her last child was born 18 months before these pictures where taken.  Alicia competed in the Hot Fit Mom Contest in Dallas at the Europa Supershow and these are some of the photos from that competition and the photoshoot the day after.

I use her as an example because we had her doing double her body weight in protein, eating six to eight times a day and using mostly weights for her training.  Most of the women you see in Oxygen, Women's Fitness, or really any other woman's fitness magazine features pictures of women that run a pretty similar eating and fitness program.  Look at some of your top figure athletes such as Monica Brant, Trish Warren, Nicole Wilkens Lee.  You will not only see women that men drool over, but women that no doubt use a lot of protein, a lot of weight training, and yet still look amazing and feminine.

If you need any help in getting a trainer or a protein to work with your lifestyle, please feel free to contact us  PUREBODY NUTRITION or you can email us with your question HERE.  Watch for our next article entitled "You Mean Protein Can Actually Taste Good?"
