1/3 cups of natural, unsweetened apple sauce
2/3 cup of almond (or soy) milk
1/3 cup of egg whites

Directions
Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl
Slowly add wet ingredients until all is combined and you have a nice cake-like batter
Coat a cake or bread pan with cooking spray or cover with tin foil
Pour batter and bake @ 275 until the center is cooked to the desired firmness

*Because the only eggs in this batter are egg whites you don’t have to worry about undercooking and getting sick (only egg yolks bring a fear of Salmonella poisoning) if you want your bars more chewy don’t cook for very long.

Depending also on the size of your pan the bars will be thinker or thinner. Broadway in Tyler, TX) we offer a lot of different things, but the best thing we offer is help. YES our supplements work! YES our meal plans that go with the supplements work too! YES your gym membership, if you go is worth every penny (and a GOOD personal trainer is worth it too)!
The difference in us and the many other options you have is pretty easy:
1. Tyler is our corporate headquarters. This is our home and we treat you like our neighbor and our family (because you probably are). We do not send you to a customer service rep, we do not hang you up in a phone tree, and we do not direct you to a 1-800 number. You will always deal with a real person and we take personal responsibility for all of our customers needs.
2. We are family owned. We want to pass on a good name and good legacy to our children that you will see at the store. We will always treat you right because it means more to us to have you as a long term customer than just a one time.
3. We search for only the best product. Most of the other options in town are part of a bigger corporation and the corporation expects them to push certain things on their customers. We are never pushy and always offer the best product. We consider ourselves the #1 and #2 clients and if we would not take a product, you better believe we are not going to give it to a customer. (btw, searching for the best product means sampling about 1000 different proteins a year.....996 of those taste terrible (think Walmart protein) or have something wrong with them (Intek Protein)
<span style="color: orange; Don't wait till after Thanksgiving or Christmas to diet start now so that when Thanksgiving turns around you can have a cheat day! Yep, I said it a cheat day!

So here is what I suggest. That you eat clean for 6 days and on the 7th day you go wild! The first 6 days you concentrate on protein, greens and a few carbs. For Breakfast cook up 3 egg whites and one whole egg ( you can scramble or over medium/easy works too) make sure you spray your pan with PAM, no butter! You can even add a slice of lean sausage if you would like, glass of low fat milk even. 3 hours after that before lunch, a mid morning snack, have a piece of fruit or a greek yogurt. Lunch time I like sandwiches but we have to do without the bread so how about a lettuce wrap/ or a whole wheat tortilla with some grilled chicken, lettuce, and a spritz or two of the spray dressing, no chips! Then 3 hours after lunch about 3pm when our body is starving, I like a yummy Core Active Whey protein shake with a little PB2 (powder peanut butter) and you have a delicious sinful snack. Dinner Grilled Fish, with green beans or peas, brown rice and if still hungry at bedtime enjoy another shake!

Now the good part, Cheat Day! Enjoy sausage, biscuits and bagels for breakfast(try to get some protein too), Enjoy those Christmas Desserts, basically eat what you want because you were good during the week-you reward yourself. By doing this you will be tired and may need to take a nap because you have not had junk for awhile, but your body needs a break and you do too mentally!

Don't be one of those, "Oh my gosh look what I ate" at christmas time, enjoy the holidays because you started the week out healthy!

Alicia Burgin
Bikini Fit Competitor, Mother of two

Texas Spring/Summer Training: Staying Safe!

Looked at the thermometer lately? It's HOT, not just in Texas but all over the U.S. We are breaking records on our smoothie sales at PureBody Nutrition, which tells me it's record breaking temperatures outside. So here are some supplements that can help keep you from falling into the danger zone of heat exhaustion of worse.

Water
We do not mess around about the truthfulness of supplements and frankly if you aren't getting enough water, all the supplements in the world will not save you from dehydration. Yes the other stuff is important but this is number one. If you do any training outside this is number one and you should drink at least a gallon a day.

AfterGlow
Typically we recommend this for post-workout, but lately we have had a large amount of long distance runners, golfers, triathlon runners, tennis competitors, and every other outdoor sport enthusiast flocking to the store for this to take before or during training and it is a GREAT choice.
Here is why:

During any given training session, our bodies pull on stored glycogen as fuel for muscle contraction, strength and endurance. Amino acids, vitamin and nutrient levels are all significantly depleted in a typical 45 minute session. Creatine and ATP serum counts are now at their lowest points. And to make things worse, cortisol levels (muscle eating hormone) are at their highest. Your body is about to use muscle as an energy source! Your favorite protein drink, or your mom, can’t save you now…

AfterGlow™ is the cure all for the post workout catabolic blues. Contrary to popular belief, high levels of protein directly after a training session will not properly replenish vital nutrients and save depleted and torn muscle fibers. In fact, several non-biased research studies prove excessive protein intake after a workout provides no physiological advantage whatsoever!
Related research suggests skipping this meal is a one way ticket to catabolism. This means if you plan on skipping your post workout meal, do yourself a favor and just skip the workout.

KreAlkalyn

This product is in AfterGlow, but it does deserve its own description. Krealkalyn specifically helps to keep water in the muscle tissue to prevent cramping and dehydration. Now if you are not drinking enough water Krealkalyn can actually cause dehydration, but if you are hydrated, it can actually help your body hold water in the muscle tissue and prevent it.

"Kre Alkalyn appears to have overcome these problems [of dehydration] by adjusting the PH levels to around about PH9. type='text'>Protein: Not Just for Bodybuilders

One of the number myths when it comes to dieting is that protein will make you fat. This myth does have a logical following too it. It is easy to conjure up images of a former football player or bodybuilder who still eats a lot of protein and is in fact obese. The problem is that this former athlete more than likely increased the carbohydrates and fats along with his protein.

Alicia uses protein to achieve her weight loss.

In fact, protein is one of the main macro-nutrients a person can use to aid in weight loss. It is safe to say that protein at the very least keeps individuals from gaining fat. Protein helps to balance insulin (the main fat storage hormone that the body releases), feeds the muscle tissue (the number one fat burner a person has), and aids in complete tissue recovery (such as hair, skin, nails, and muscle).

Healthy protein sources include chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, lean meats and even some protein shakes. The most common form of protein shakes are derived from whey protein concentrate. A human can only absorb about sixty to sixty five percent of the amino acids from a concentrate, which leads to a higher calorie intake with less of the important amino acids being absorbed. Unfortunately these are cheaper for large manufacturing companies that have even larger advertising budgets. Most protein shakes that are advertised and carried in discount retailers are a lower quality protein concentrate.

The typical shake a dieting individual should take to get the best results would be an isolate blend or 100% isolate protein, such as the one found in Core’s Whey Active or Isopure. With these products you get a purer protein yielding ninety-nine percent amino acid absorption and a lower calorie product. Typically, twenty calories lower than the equal serving of concentrate.

<img width='1' that makes you toxic.

3. A flatter belly.

4. More regular bowel movements.
5. Healthier liver and kidneys.

This is always a fun topic to bring up in person. Most people remember something they took at one point that either had them camping in the bathroom all day, made them cramp, or just flat out made them sick.

The majority of cleansers that people take are simply colon cleansers. I've even seen where something labeled as a "Full Body Cleanser" was a colon cleanse with a sprinkling of other items that if they did any cleansing to other organs you would not be able to see a measurable difference.

On top that most cleansers contain a very strong herbal product called Senna Powder and another called Psyllium Seed Husks or Psyllium Powder. These two products can make a cleanse extremely painful, embarrassing, and flat out difficult to function. They could really be classified as natural herbal laxatives. I'd say that 98% of the negativity associated with cleansers comes down to these two products. They are cheap and easy for a company to market.

More concerning is that these products can actually have addictive qualities. Not that you would be breaking into PureBody Nutrition to get your fix of Senna, but more along the lines they can hinder colon muscle function. The goal of these cleansers is to bring water into the colon and flush out what is in there. This causes the colon muscles to not have to do any work. Long term use can lead to a weakened colon and the dependence on these products to have a bowel movement.

I have come to trust and recommend two products depending on how long or short you want to cleanse. The Natural Cleanse is a 10 day formula that cleanses the colon, liver and kidneys. You simply take a packet of pills at breakfast and a packet at dinner. If you do not like taking a bunch of pills then you should take the Detox and Cleanse. You simply take 2 pills at bed time for 45 days. It takes longer to cleanse but still has the same effect.

These two products are safe and they are effective. They are a bit different from general cleansers. Remember earlier I mentioned that the Senna/Psyllium products fill the colon with water, the two I recommend add just a little bit of water to the colon, but the ingredients actually scrub the colon folds and remove what causes the colon to get backed up in the first place. The difference is like cleaning your dirty truck with a water hose and cleaning it with a scrub brush combined with a pressure washer.

Drop in the store or order online Fighting the Holiday Pudge

As you chew on your favorite Halloween candy while reading here are a few of our favorite tips to avoid overeating and gaining weight during the Holidays:

SMALLER PLATE
When at parties or at the relatives house for meals, ask for a smaller plate, such as a dinner salad plate. These will hold about the perfect portion of food and will only allow you to put about 3 things on your plate as opposed to 5.

DRINK PROTEIN SHAKES

The National Health Institute recently published a study showing that taking two 30 gram protein shakes a day helped with weight loss regardless of calories consumed. The reason being that protein helps you feel full, helps prevent fat storage hormones from going out of control, and helps feed lean body mass. We have a great recipe using the Whey Active shakes to make a hot chocolate that tastes like REAL hot chocolate and is a great substitute for the sugary stuff in the packets and get this.....it is about the same price!

DRINK WATER

In between each bite drink 2-4 oz of water (that's about 1-2 mouthfuls). This will not only make you chew your food slower, but you'll also fill up faster and maybe avoid seconds or thirds. Water also keeps the body cleansed of any impurities that might be in the food you are eating. It's also essential to flush out any excess sodium from all the eats that the season.

FUN FUN FUN

Fun is the word. With all the new active video games it's not hard, but also find creative ways to stay healthy and incorporate physical activity this season. Build a snowman (if we happen to get enough), go ice/roller skating, play a game like charades, hokey pokey or "rock" around the Christmas tree with some upbeat Christmas music (the kids love to see the grandparents dancing)!

WALK

The holidays can be stressful and one of the best ways to combat that stress is to get out and get active. A good walk will not only allow you to get some stress relieving Vitamin D, it will also reduce the stress hormones. Oh yeah and the calorie burn is great too.

www.purebodynutrition.net

Don't Let Your Kids Get Fat!! The arteries of obese children exhibit a stiffness normally found in adults with heart disease, according to a new study from BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver.

Here is a previous blog on supplements that can help. Two Supplements to Help Prevent Childhood Obesity

Canadian researchers looked at 63 obese children and 55 children of normal weight, both groups with an average age of 13. The obese children had abnormal results on an ultrasound test of the heart and blood vessels, which measures how quickly blood flows through the body. Of particular concern was the aorta, the body's largest artery, which carries blood to the rest of the body's arteries.
"The normal aorta has elastic qualities that buffer the flow of blood. When that elasticity is lost, aortic stiffness results -- a sign of developing cardiovascular disease," said study author Dr. Kevin Harris, from BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver, in a news release. "Aortic stiffness is associated with cardiovascular events and early death."

Harris says that it's as if the obese children are experiencing the aging process at an accelerated pace, and it's unclear whether weight loss through diet and exercise could reverse the hardening of the arteries.
Dr. Carolyn Landis, who heads the Healthy Kids, Healthy Weight program at Cleveland's Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, says that parents need to take action and not wait to see if being overweight is something their child will "grow out of."

"There are many studies coming out about how obese children are physically different, and it starts as young as preschool," she told AOL Health. "With preschoolers, it's not about putting them on a diet, but you can slow the rate of weight gain over time. Institute healthy changes like more fruits and vegetables, less screen time and an increase in activity," she suggests.

Landis also emphasizes the importance of making changes for the whole family. "As a family, get rid of calorically dense foods. Parents should be eating and drinking in a healthy way, too. Go for hikes together as a family or take up a new sport. Even normal-weight kids in the family should join in."

In her practice, Landis sees many kids who want to eat what their friends are eating, even if it's unhealthy. Kids don't want to be singled out. But she is hopeful that studies like this one will serve as a call to action.

"Hopefully pediatricians who see this study will help parents and notice when children are gaining weight too rapidly," says Landis. "The key is to do something before they become obese, before they turn into teens who weigh 300 to 400 pounds. It's about early intervention."

By Ronnie Koenig and Will Burgin

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://purebodynutrition.blogspot.com/2010/11/dont-let-your-kids-get-fat-obese-kids.html' title='Don't Let Your Kids Get Fat!! This time of year saddens me because I see a lot of parents who allow their children to gorge on candy pre and post Halloween or Fall Festival time, overfill on Thanksgiving food the day of and week that follows, and then of course all the goodness and bad nutrition that is Christmas.

It breaks my heart further when I see kids at the start of obesity indulging in such activities with parents on the sideline blaming genetics or "big bones" or an assortment of other excuses. When in reality the parents need to turn off the video games, turn off the TV, take away the hand held devices and everyone go to the park.

There are a few supplements that are actually safe for children and can actually help with the prevention of fat gain and GET THIS kids enjoy taking them!

#1 Protein Smoothie
I am a huge fan of increasing the amount of protein children eat, in particular low fat protein. Now most of their protein should come from chicken, fish, eggs and lean meats, but instead of giving the child a fast unhealthy alternative in the morning or any other time you might be in a rush, give them a protein shake. In our store I recommend the Whey Active or the Protein Ultimate brands. They taste GREAT and you can even have the kids sample the different ones at our smoothie bar.

Benefits of Protein include:
*Important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood.
*The body does not store protein as fat.
*Better Insulin response leading to less fat storage.
*Overall improved energy.
*Satiation of appetite.
*Better auto-immune response leading to less sickness and faster recovery.

#2 FISH OIL/Omega 3
OK, I know the immediate response on this one...."but it tastes so awful". Let me introduce you to the folks at Nordic Naturals. GREAT tasting stuff in gummy form or in chewable "bubbles". Don't believe me! Come in for a sample! They taste so good, it is what we give out to the kids at Halloween at the store and it never fails that the parents end up coming back and buying the Omega gummies because they taste so good.

Benefits of Fish Oil/Omega 3 include:
*It is an essential fat meaning the body does not produce it.
*May help prevent or improve ADHD and hyperactivity
*May help prevent or improve Depression
* Heart Disease
*Immunity

FDA waits 13 years to pull dangerous/deadly drug from the market

Yet another reason to be extremely cautious of drugs being prescribed by doctors who do not have time to research the drugs for themselves. In other news, protein is still FDA unapproved and we hope to keep it that way.

This drug should have never made it to the prescription counter!

News Author: Robert Lowes
CME Author: Yael Waknine

October 15, 2010 — Abbott Laboratories has withdrawn the obesity drug sibutramine (Meridia) from the market in light of clinical trial data pointing to an increased risk for stroke and myocardial infarction, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced October 8.
The agency asked Abbott Laboratories to pull the drug from the market after it evaluated data from a postmarketing study of the drug's cardiovascular safety. The study, called the Sibutramine Cardiovascular Outcomes Trial (SCOUT), demonstrated a 16% increase in the risk for serious cardiovascular events such as nonfatal heart attack, nonfatal stroke, the need for resuscitation after the heart stopped, and death in a cohort of patients given sibutramine compared with another given a placebo.

In September, an FDA advisory panel reviewed the SCOUT results, with half of the members in favor of withdrawing sibutramine and the other half recommending stricter access to the drug and tougher label warnings.
Following the advisory panel vote, the FDA concluded that the cardiovascular risks posed by sibutramine outweigh the modest weight loss observed with the drug, which the agency had approved in 1997.
At a press conference October 8, John Jenkins, MD, director of the Office of New Drugs at the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said that roughly 100,000 people in the United States are currently taking sibutramine.

The FDA is advising physicians to stop prescribing sibutramine and for patients to stop taking it and talk to their healthcare provider about alternative weight-loss regimens. The agency does not know of any withdrawal syndrome associated with the drug, according to Dr. Jenkins.
Dr. Jenkins also said he is not aware of any long-term consequences for patients who stop taking the drug. The cardiovascular events observed in SCOUT, he said, probably stem from sibutramine increasing blood pressure and heart rate. These adverse effects disappear once the drug is withdrawn.

In the wake of the sibutramine decision, there are still a limited number of FDA-approved drugs for losing weight, said Mary Parks, MD, director of the agency's Division of Metabolic and Endocrine Drug Products, at the press conference. Prescription drugs for short-term weight loss include phentermine and diethylpropion. Orlistat is available in both an over-the-counter form (Alli; GlaxoSmithKline) and prescription form (Xenical; Hoffman-La Roche) at a higher dose, Dr. Parks added.
Last May, the FDA revised the label for both versions of orlistat to warn about rare cases of severe liver injury associated with the drug.
Dr. Jenkins suggested Friday that the nation would benefit from more weight-loss drugs.

"We're still very committed to working with (manufacturers) to help them to develop and gain approval of safe and effective drugs to help patients manage weight," Dr. Jenkins said. "Obesity is a serious health problem."
More information about the announcement is available on the FDA's Web site.

In a related action, the FDA warned consumers not to use a weight-loss product called Slimming Beauty Bitter Orange Slimming Capsules, sold over the Internet, because they contain sibutramine. The drug is not listed on the product label.

To report adverse events related to sibutramine or Slimming Beauty capsules, contact MedWatch, the FDA's safety information and adverse event reporting program, by telephone at 1-800-FDA-1088, by fax at 1-800-FDA-0178, online at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch, or by mail to MedWatch, FDA, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, Maryland 20852-9787.

Does Everyone Around You Seem to Have A Cold? Some helpful tips!

Respiratory infections like colds and the flu can vary in degree, from just plain annoying to life threatening. Not only can these illnesses produce fevers, headaches, chills, congestion and sore throats, but they also account for significant time missed from work and school. These common viral ailments are not helped by the use of antibiotics and, in fact, many times those options are harmful.
Bolstering the immune system in preparation for winter can provide considerable prevention against potential infections. Adopting the principles of optimal wellness is the best line of defense. This foundation is built on adequate rest, healthy diet, proper techniques of stress reduction, fostering a spiritual life and possibly supplements to strengthen the immune system.
Frequent hand washing with soap is a must to prevent the spread of germs. Adequate rest is extremely important, as with an exhausted body, the immune system loses its potency. Stress has certainly been the kindling for a fair share of colds. Once people do get sick, rest is necessary to allow the immune system to mount a response to the invader.
Risk factors that might lead to more colds include: Frequent travel, heavy exposure to infected people (i.e. classrooms or meetings) and busy, irregular schedules. By taking time to evaluate the risk factors and lifestyle deficiencies that might affect the immune system, one will dramatically improve their chances of avoiding infection.
Diet has a strong influence on the immune system. For example, refined sugar intake from items like sweets and soft drinks is known to weaken the frontline defenders, called natural killer cells. These cells roam the body looking for invaders, as well as abnormal cells that could transform into early cancer cells. Also, a diet high in sugary foods almost always lacks vitamins and minerals from vegetables and fruits needed to strengthen our defenses.
Garlic is a potent and inexpensive food that has been used for centuries to fight off infections and bolster the immune system.

Typically, vitamin D is manufactured by the body in response to sun exposure. Winter and living at higher latitudes means less UV light the skin can manufacture into this beneficial vitamin. From October to April, only those in the southernmost states are able to receive adequate sunlight. Even during the summer, for proper production, the skin must be exposed for 10-15 minutes during bright sun hours (typically 9 a.m.-4 p.m.). For those in areas lacking a natural source, vitamin D is a very safe and cost-effective supplement to include in a winter supplement regimen.
Despite optimal health and wellness, people still get sick. Below are supplements that help once you are fighting the cold or flu bug.

Supplements for Boosting the Immune System
Not all of the supplements here are necessary, but each offers a different benefit to the immune system. Most importantly, you should have these items available at the first sign of a cold or flu. The earlier you take them, the shorter the infection.

Echinacea and astragalus: These herbs can be taken together or separately to help prevent or shorten the duration of a cold. Take up to 3 doses daily at the first sign of symptoms and continue until they subside. Most experts believe the herb is safe when taken daily for up to 6-12 weeks. Preventative strategy calls for 1-2 doses per day.

Zinc lozenges: Most lozenges or mints contain too much sugar to be of any benefit, but zinc has the property of limiting a virus’ reproduction. Throughout the day, 3-4 lozenges can help shorten the duration of the illness.

Oscillococcinum: Flu protection can be enhanced by the homeopathic supplement oscillococcinum. This is best used at the first sign of the flu. It can also be used if you are in contact with someone who is sick, or in places where you hear excessive coughing. It‘s a sweet tasting powder that is dissolved under the tongue. Use a second dose if symptoms persist.

Freeze-dried garlic: The most helpful garlic supplements for the immune system are freeze-dried extracts. The purpose is to retain the beneficial immune defense properties of the garlic during processing. Freeze-dried garlic is great for prevention of colds, as well as bacterial infections. It should not be used as a stand alone treatment but it is a nice add-on, especially for those who cannot eat garlic.

Beta-glucan: Beta-glucan is yet another example of Mother Nature’s prescriptions. This is a material from the cell walls of yeast that improves the fighting power of the immune system. Take with food, 1 capsule daily for prevention, or 2-3 capsules a day for treatment.

Vitamin C: Any discussion of colds or flu wouldn’t be complete without mentioning vitamin C. When an animal is sick, its production of vitamin C goes up dramatically. Humans are unable to produce vitamin C, but the need still increases significantly. Vitamin C supplementation can help reduce the duration of colds. There is one side effect: loose stools. This occurs when the bowels can no longer absorb the amount of vitamin C coming into the gut. The dosage needed to achieve this effect varies. The common recommendation for vitamin C is 500-1,000 mg every 2 hours at the first sign of a cold. Continue this dosage until the symptoms abate or you have loose bowels. If you do experience this uncomfortable red flag, target a slightly lower dose of vitamin C the next day. As a preventative dose, 1,000-2,000 mg can be taken daily.

by the editors of PureHealthMD

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://purebodynutrition.blogspot.com/2010/10/does-everyone-around-you-seem-to-have.html' title='Does Everyone Around You Seem to Have A Cold? Most of what I read is in the nutrition field and I love studies. I am a total geek when it comes to numbers and research.

I have noticed a recent trend the last few years of what I call "sensationalism of studies". I realize that not everyone is a geek on nutrition studies like me, but some of the headlines I read really concern me, because most people only read the headlines.

Take this one for instance:

From Purdue:

"Study: Higher-protein diets support weight loss, but may lower bone density in postmenopausal women"
Now from reading this you would think that high-protein diets are causing bone fractures. When you read the study, you find out that the diet they had them on was low in calcium based foods. THAT is the problem, not the protein. I would also consider the diet they had the patients on as malnutrition.

Another problem I see is that often companies will grant money to Universities to research their diet/weight loss plan. The Universities gladly take this money and come out with only positive things to say about company and/or their products. To me this is unethical, but everyday you will hear "University studied and approved". The bad thing is that you really have to research to see who funded the study.

My favorite was a few years back, when I first realized this problem, I saw a beaming study on the Atkins diet (I do not mind the Atkins diet and have no problem with people being on it). From the study you would almost think they had cured Cancer, AIDS and world hunger (okay a little exaggerated). I noticed at the end of the study it said "Funded by a grant from Atkins Int.". Really small writing at the very bottom, but it non-the less changed my opinion of "University studies". You see the same thing, sadly enough, with the FDA and drug companies.

MY FAVORITE
The FDA and drug companies LOVE to bash supplements. Why? It's a cheaper and safer alternative to the chemicals they produce. I will say in 95% of the studies on supplements they under dose the amount to be used and not so surprisingly you read headlines like "Ginkgo Biloba does not work in improving memory", "multivitamins not effective in preventing disease", and "Green Tea not effective in preventing cancer".

I could very easily come up with similar studies and bash FDA approved products. In the Ginkgo study I read, the study dose used was 20mgs. Not keep in mind that the effective dose for the age group they where using should have been minimally 100mgs or much much higher. I would say around 200mgs would be effective for the 60-90 year olds they where using. They clearly missed the mark on dosing.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is used to treat headaches, but if we hold their standards of research to Acetaminophen instead of getting 500-1000mg of an effective dose you would only get 50-100mg. Without a doubt you would have a research study that says "Acetaminophen ineffective against headaches".

I write this to simply caution you on the sensationalism of studies. The media makes money off of hype. Be sure and read the original study, not just a summary. I have seen cases where major parts of research have been left out when the press get their hands on a study.

Always question studies you read that are in the media, whether they support supplementation or are against.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://purebodynutrition.blogspot.com/2010/09/acetaminophen-ineffective-against.html' title='"Acetaminophen ineffective against headaches" T.J. says he's 6'1", but it sure seems that he is taller. TJ weighed in at 290 pounds at the start. His goal was to loose 70lbs. He accomplished that goal and dropped down to 220. He then realized he wanted to add a little more muscle and now sits at a muscular and fit 230.

His original goal was an extremely honorable one. He told me he wanted to be in better overall health and be able to chase his daughter around. The funny thing is that even though TJ is in better health and gotten faster, his daughter is still a lot to keep up with, but that seems to be the case with little girls. It is funny to see a 6'1" musclehead trying to keep up with a cute little girl that is about 2' tall and weighs 25 pounds. Overall he added about and inch and a half total to his arms, chest, and legs after loosing the body fat.

Supplements Taken:

Weight Loss

Heat & Killer Bees,
Lean Core,
Protein Ultimate & Core Active Protein,
Game On Pre-Workout,
Big Blue,
PureMan Multi Vitamin,
Vitamin C,
Fish Oil,
L Carnitine

Muscle Building

Androbolox,
Protein Ultimate & Core Active Protein,
Game On Pre-Workout,
Big Blue,
PureBody Multi Vitamin,
Vitamin C,
Fish Oil,
L Carnitine

In His Own Words: TJ's ADVICE

"Getting started is tough, but worth it. You don’t see the results fast, but it will come. Working out and eating right is like anything else. It’s how bad do YOU want it. The only thing that stands between trying to look good and succeeding is YOU. You have to work for it like you work for everything else, and the payoff is amazing. The only thing that helped me is start with small goals to achieve, then work toward the end. Don’t start off with something impossible, like trying, to lose 70 pounds in two months. Focus on losing 10 or 15 pounds then reset and set another goal. Also, don’t get on the scale and weigh yourself, look in the mirror for results."

Need help with your Goals. (you will absorb 99% of the amino acids in an isolate as opposed to a "concentrate" protein). I typically like to have 50-80% Isolate and 20-50% concentrate in my proteins. It is a good balance between the two proteins. An absolute isolate actually tastes bad, but combining the two seems put a good balance on flavor.
Flavor: If it is a fruit flavor (especially tropical) it will more than likely taste bad or the protein quality is so low that you will not absorb any of the protein. Another problem is that the sugar content maybe extremely high! Fruit flavors that are occasionally really good Strawberry, Watermelon (I've found many to taste good, but they are high in sugar), peach, banana.

There are really only three products I recommend that are in our store that I am confident you will more than likely LOVE the taste. Be sure and ask for a sample when in our store to make sure you like the flavor before you leave. Also feel free to ask for samples of other proteins in the store.

#1. Core Whey Active (Chocolate or Vanilla)

#2 AfterGlow (Bazooka Fruit, Watermelon, CherryBomb)

#3 Protein Ultimate (Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Cookies and Creme)

Had to share this photo! THIS is a myth that needs to be dispelled.

The primary hormones for women are progesterone and estrogen. Women do produce some testosterone, but typically not enough to make women bulky. Women in magazines that look bulky are typically taking supplements or even drugs to increase testosterone, which leads to the "bulky" or "manly" look.

I'm posting up pictures of Alicia, who is 34, a mother of two. Her last child was born 18 months before these pictures where taken. Alicia competed in the Hot Fit Mom Contest in Dallas at the Europa Supershow and these are some of the photos from that competition and the photoshoot the day after.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Most of the women you see in Oxygen, Women's Fitness, or really any other woman's fitness magazine features pictures of women that run a pretty similar eating and fitness program. Look at some of your top figure athletes such as Monica Brant, Trish Warren, Nicole Wilkens Lee. You will not only see women that men drool over, but women that no doubt use a lot of protein, a lot of weight training, and yet still look amazing and feminine.

If you need any help in getting a trainer or a protein to work with your lifestyle, please feel free to contact us
